Indian Hill Transportation Department 513-272-4530

Welcome to Indian Hill, we're happy you're here! We hope this page provides you with a handy go to for all those questions that just might come up. Look for the little bus icon for Quick Bus Tips that will make transportation smoother.

Information for your consideration: There are three options for KDG ridership.

  1. AM pickup - KDG students ride with the Primary/Elementary (Pre-5th) routes in the morning
  2. KDG take home at 1:45 (1:45 routes only have KDG students on them)
  3. For students that attend Kindergarten Enrichment they can ride home on the 3:45 bus with Primary/Elementary students. (must be registered for this) --- KGS Academy Indian Hill has before school, extended kindergarten, and after school programs for families in the Indian Hill School District with a secure and separate entrance on the Indian Hill Elementary School campus. Before School: 7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Extended Kindergarten: 1:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. After School: 3:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. For additional details on all program offerings, including cost and registration, please contact: Tami Lanham (513) 207-8889

A Parent, guardian, or approved person must be present at the bus stop before a Preschool or Kindergarten student will be let off the bus. 1:45 KDG take home routes are much smaller than regular AM or PM routes and therefore if even one student is not on it can affect the scheduled arrival time. Please make sure that you are prepared to receive your child by 1:45. Set up Geo Alerts 3-4 blocks away from your stop in the STOPFINDER app and turn on push notifications for STOPFINDER on your phone so you will know when the bus is getting close to the stop. Calling parents to come out to get their child off the bus is time consuming for the office please help us with this process.

Please add transportation phone #'s to your phone. You will receive calls from 513-272-4530, 4531, & 4532

Use the Final Forms website to put in all the information the school will need for your child by the first day of school.

Make sure the 1st parent/guardian contact that you put into Final Forms is the person that you want the Transportation Department to contact first during route times. STOPFINDER invites will be sent to this contact's email.

HELP US KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE

SCHOOL BUS PROCEDURES for Pick-up's and Drop-off's

Please Read and help us teach your child to follow the steps for safe student pickups & dropoffs

What is a place of safety? A place of safety is a place at the Bus Stop that a driver assigns for your student wait for the bus to arrive or to stand until the bus pulls away. It should be a minimum of 20 steps from the door of the bus and the driver often assigns a specific place ex. 'By the lamp post' or 'The second line in the driveway'

PICK-UP

  1. Make sure your student is at their place of safety before the bus arrives and before the driver turns the red lights on. Even if you drive your child to the stop please make sure they are out of the car standing at their place of safety.
  2. Your child's place of safety is where they will stand so the driver can see them and is designated by the bus driver. It is sometimes a piece of tape or a landmark. Ask your child where their place of safety is.
  3. As the bus arrives the driver will count the students at their place of safety to make sure the same number get safely onto the bus.
  4. When the driver opens the door & the red lights come on, the driver will have their hand up in a "stop" position. After the driver checks traffic and confirms that it is clear the driver will drop their hand.
  5. The student may approach the bus after the driver's hand signal. If they are crossers they will go to the edge of the road and check traffic before crossing the street and should be at least 10' out from the front of the bus. Please help teach them to walk a straight line across the street and not to walk in toward the bus. When the little ones do this the driver can no longer see them and they are in the danger zone.
  6. When there is a combination stop of both left and right side. The students on the left (crossers) will approach the bus first after receiving the hand signal. Students on the right side should wait at their place of safety for the driver's hand signal before approaching the bus.
  7. If the driver blows the horn, that means danger. The student needs to re-check traffic if they see nothing they should look back to the driver for further instructions.
  8. Our drivers are directed to not be early to a bus stop for am pickups. But they may arrive later than the stated time for many reasons that are out of our control. Especially in inclement weather, we understand if your child is inside but please be watching for the bus and send them out of the house or car to be at their place of safety before the bus stops and has the red lights on.

DROP-OFF

  1. Before students get off the bus they need to go to the bottom step and look both ways, not only for cars but bicycles and pedestrians.
  2. Crossers unload first and need to walk 10 steps along the side of the roadway past the front of the bus and wait there for the driver's hand signal.
    • When the driver drops their hand the student walks to the traffic edge of the bus, stops, and checks traffic on their own before crossing.
    • If it is safe, they will go directly to the place of safety, stop, turn around, and remain there until the bus leaves. This is the time when the driver will count students and make sure they are all safely away from the bus.
  3. Non-crossers should go directly to their place of safety, stop, turn around, and remain there until the bus leaves. This is the time when the driver will count students and make sure they are all safely away from the bus.
  4. If the driver blows the horn, that means danger. The student needs to re-check traffic if they see nothing they should look back to the driver for further instructions.

The procedures described above are required by Ohio Law

STOPFINDER Parent App: Please call the Transportation Office for an invite and check out the short video on the website to find out how to use the STOPFINDER Features. Depending on your phone's refresh rate the bus may be closer than you think.

Watching the bus on the app may mean your child misses the bus. We recommend setting up Geo Alerts 3 to 4 blocks away so you can be alerted when your bus is nearing your stop. This is very helpful on the days when the bus is running late.

Don't forget to turn on push notifications for the STOPFINDER app in your phone's settings for timely messages about your bus route.
