A Message from Dr. Lauren Gentene, IHMS Principal
At Indian Hill Middle School, we are deeply committed to “every learner, every day.” We know it is an incredibly important developmental phase in a learner’s life, full of changes and challenges but also rife with opportunities! Our focus is to ensure that our middle school is a place that is profoundly responsive to the unique social, emotional, and intellectual growth of young adolescents.
Middle schoolers are natural explorers, deep-thinkers, and creative problem-solvers. Our role is to build a school culture that empowers them–one where they are encouraged to take healthy risks, discover their unique voices, and take authentic ownership of their learning journeys. To build this purposeful school culture, we maintain high expectations in harmony with high levels of empathy for each other. We ensure that all learners engage in a rigorous curriculum that inspires our students to stretch their capabilities, think critically, and embrace a growth mindset. This means that all students should experience a myriad of low-stakes successes and failures regularly throughout their time as learners here.
We ensure that there are robust systems of support and learning structures so that every learner has the resources, encouragement, and access needed to achieve his or her highest potential. We also hold deeply the belief that middle school education is never a solitary effort. For our middle school to be successful, it must thrive on the strong partnership between our classrooms and your homes.
