Indian Hill High School (IHHS) salutes the IHHS Robotics Team 421H for winning the Robotics Online Challenge sponsored by Google. The students earned a $500 Vex gift card which will help purchase additional supplies for future competition, and an automatic qualification/paid entry fee to the Vex World's Competition (which will be virtual this year).
“I am extremely proud of these students for taking the initiative to tackle the online challenge,” said IHHS Project Lead the Way Teacher and Robotics mentor Myrtis Smith. “It gave them an opportunity to apply the skills they've learned in engineering class to a real-life problem. This challenge was a culmination of problem solving, creativity, and technical aptitude – everything we want our engineering students to get from the Project Lead the Way experience. I'm excited to watch them compete in the Vex World's competition in March.”
The Indian Hill High School students who competed included: Kunal Ranjan, Krish Ranjan, Euan Ji, Nathan Padhy, Arjun Verma, and Jack Brunner. In their online submission, the students explained that during the pandemic, they wanted to give back to their teachers and staff by making the school a safer place. The students created a cleaning robot which autonomously sanitizes desks with the help of a UV light, killing germs and viruses including COVID-19.
Project Lead The Way (PLTW), a national organization that provides programs in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, designated Indian Hill High School as a 2019-2020 Distinguished School. Indian Hill High School, in partnership with Great Oaks, was one of 143 PLTW high school programs across the country to receive recognition.
