Four Indian Hill Elementary School teams earn top 10 in state for stock market game!

IHES Winning Stock Market Game Students

Indian Hill Elementary School (IHES) students continue to take the lead in investing! The Indian Hill School District is proud to share that four IHES teams placed within the top 10 in the state during the annual Stock Market Game sponsored by the non-profit Alpaugh Family Economics Center, University of Cincinnati.

“It is important students have an understanding of financial literacy and real-world math applications; the game allows them to see that they are active participants in our economy and see the risks and rewards of investors who study trends and company decisions,” said Betsy Gentile Henning, IHES gifted intervention specialist. “They learn about different professions and are able to engage in mature conversations with family.”

For the first time, this year Henning joined Teacher Amie Kanzeg in working with students enrolled in Brave Virtual Academy (BVA), the District’s new online learning model. A remote setting did not impede fierce investing competition among the students who participated.

“We met weekly to learn about stock market terms and content,” said Henning. “We also studied our Total Equity each week, and we reflected on ups and downs in our investments and in the market. We talked about terms such as diversification, portfolio, ticker symbols, Bull and Bear Market, and Total Equity.”

The students who placed in the top 10 included: Third Place - Ellie White, Emma Prada, Shalili Shah; Seventh Place - Ellie Pedrick; Ninth Place - Leo Chen, Amani Williams, Elsa Trout, Claire Bergstrom; 10th Place - Saanvi Shrivastav, Samantha Kettler, Neve Seaman-Kossmeyer.
