Indian Hill Elementary School students earn design award

People's Choice Award

The Indian Hill School District celebrates Indian Hill Elementary School students selected for the People’s Choice Award during the annual Design LAB Exhibit. The student designers/architects included Jasmine Arul, Grace Cooperrider, Frankie Hall, Eva Jha, and Nicholas Miller.
The students created a project called Wonderworld Amusement Park, which was on display during the design show during the end of May in Northern Kentucky.

“These students did a phenomenal job implementing all five stages of the design thinking cycle,” said Indian Hill Gifted Intervention Specialist Monica Dawkins. “The People's Choice Award that they earned is a wonderful reward and reflection of their critical thinking and creativity throughout the duration of the project as well as their communication collaboration with each other.”

According to their website, Design LAB: Learn + Build, formerly known as Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (AFC), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with programs, tours, and events for all ages. The organization’s mission is to create appreciation, awareness, and improvement of the built environment through education. Design LAB pairs local professionals with educators to guide students through a real-world, themed design problem, emphasizing the development of: research, critical thinking, financial literacy, problem solving, verbal and visual communication, creative expression, collaborative team-building, STEM and presentation skills.

“This is another example of professional partnerships that help us focus on Learners as Doers, which is a key focus area in our #IHPromise strategic plan,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Principal Whitney Buell. “We appreciate these opportunities that provide our students avenues to explore career pathways, problem solve, and create. We are very proud of what our students accomplished.”
