They met before the start of the school day to launch the first in a series of special lessons. On Wednesday, January 18, around 40 Indian Hill High School (IHHS) students packed the IHHS Cafeteria with all eyes on the big screen to be greeted by nationally known education thought leader Tom Murray.
“Clearly, this is not a typical classroom experience – but this is also no typical class,” said Indian Hill High School Principal Jeff Damadeo.
Damadeo should know – he is at the head of the class for the newly formed Future Brave Student Leadership Team, managing meetings directly and as a collaborative effort between the IHHS Staff Leadership Council and outside partners. Damadeo says this initiative is all about creating a unique experience for the students to learn and grow.
“We couldn’t be more excited about these sessions,” said Damadeo. “This is an excellent group of student-leaders, and just one meeting in, we are already experiencing amazing moments together.”
Students were selected through a teacher-nomination process. Damadeo says in addition to the support of Murray for the program’s launch, they have additional experiences lined up. In February, students will attend a leadership workshop through Camp Joy.
“This is something special and we are treating it as such,” said Damadeo. “Building relationships with these amazing students – who will be future global leaders – there’s simply no place I’d rather be. This is what it’s all about.”
