The Senior Experience: Candy for a Cause

Candy for a Cause

Over the past week, Indian Hill High School (IHHS) students have had the opportunity to purchase a lollipop for that special someone. But this isn’t your typical Valentine-season treat. Our school participated in selling Candy for a Cause, an annual fundraising event sponsored by the IHHS National Honor Society.

IHHS student and National Honor Society (NHS) Treasurer Conrad Bennett said, “We do the lollipop fundraiser every year. We had different NHS members sign up to lead the fundraiser for service hours. It's a new take on the Halloween fundraiser we did earlier this year!”

All proceeds this year go to Cancer Free Kids, a local non-profit based out of Loveland. Cancer Free Kids holds an array of signature events every year including Night for The Fight, The Butterfly Walk, The 100 Mile Challenge, and The Celebration of Champions. They also fund research projects around Cincinnati to advance treatments for children with cancer. In 2022 alone, they funded 11 research grants to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

IHHS student and National Honor Society President Hannah Pollock explains why Cancer Free Kids was chosen for this year's non-profit, “Cancer Free KIDS was selected as the non-profit organization that Indian Hill’s National Honor Society would raise funds for because of their focus on helping local kids with pediatric illnesses. With all the opportunities they offer in helping find a cure for cancer, we thought they would be the perfect cause for us to support, since we know we are making a difference in the lives of many kids now and in the future.”

Students at Indian Hill have been working closely with this foundation for years now, but purchasing a lollipop for a Valentine is just one more way students strive to make an impact.
