STEM Designated: Congratulations to Indian Hill Primary and Elementary Schools

STEM Designated

The Indian Hill School District celebrates outstanding achievement in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning at Indian Hill Primary School and Indian Hill Elementary School. Both buildings were recommended for recognition by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN), achieving the status of best in the state for STEM learning after receiving the ODE/OSLN STEM Designation.

“This is indeed a moment to celebrate,” said Indian Hill School District CEO/Superintendent Kirk Koennecke. “Our team underwent a rigorous process of examination by experts in STEM learning, and our world-class faculty showcased, once again, why our district is among the elite not only in Ohio, but also across the country in STEM opportunities.”

Koennecke and fellow administrators surprised educators at each building with a cake as they made the announcement on Tuesday, May 16. While the surprise was exciting, both building principals say the real joy comes from the deep learning their students experience during each day of the school year.

“The impact that the implementation of STEM practices had, and continue to have, on our student learning is extraordinary!” said Indian Hill Elementary School Principal Whitney Buell. “Students are actively discussing content, given a choice in how they demonstrate mastery and engage in real-world interdisciplinary problem solving in every classroom at Indian Hill Elementary School. We look forward to providing these innovative learning opportunities, building partnerships and connecting learning to careers for years to come.”

“STEM Designation is about recognizing the amazing work we do with and for children every day at Indian Hill,” said Indian Hill Primary School Principal Dr. Erin Owens. “STEM is so much more than Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It is about making the world a better place by identifying problems small and large and working together to create solutions that make a difference. STEM makes the world a better place, and I am so proud that we recognize that at Indian Hill.”
