Indian Hill Elementary School students earn first in the state for Stock Market Game!

Stock Market Game Winning Team

Indian Hill Elementary School students have done it AGAIN!

Braves placed first in Ohio in The Stock Market Game, sponsored by the non-profit Alpaugh Family Economics Center, University of Cincinnati (UC) – beating out 565 elementary, middle, and high school teams across the state! The Indian Hill Elementary School winning team included students Kayla Brosenne, Parker Metz, and Alex Yu.

“I thought it was really fun,” said winning student Kayla Brosenne. “At the beginning, I didn’t know anything about stocks. The game didn’t just help me learn about how to invest, but it also helped me to learn about different companies and things that affect the economy.”

“The winning team this spring made $29,000 in three weeks,” said Betsy Henning, instructional coach at Indian Hill Elementary School, and Alpaugh Family Economics Center at University of Cincinnati 2022-2023 Personal Finance Educator of the Year. “This team is our most successful team ever and beat all 565 elementary, middle, and high school participating teams to place first in the state overall.”

“This success is simply outstanding,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Principal Whitney Buell. “We sincerely want to thank our IH PTO for sponsoring the participation of our entire fifth grade for the third year in a row!”

Indian Hill Elementary School had winning teams both this fall and this spring. The top team in the fall placed third in the city and state for elementary schools. Now the first place team will compete at UC against other regional high school and middle school teams in the Annual Portfolio Challenge, where each member of the winning team will receive a $2,500 scholarship to the University of Cincinnati.

“We always look forward to the learning, growth, and authentic applications involved in financial learning when we play the Stock Market Game,” said Henning. “It is a new experience every single time.”

Winners compete at the University of Cincinnati during the Portfolio Challenge on May 1.
