From research to published, one Indian Hill High School student offers advice

Eshaan Gandhi

Eshaan Gandhi is a published researcher, celebrated for corporate accomplishments, and a recognized supporter of the arts through a nonprofit he helped establish; he is also a junior at Indian Hill High School. He attributes his already notable success to carefully curated course selections during his high school tenure, along with a supportive team of world-class educators. We wanted to learn more about his journey and the advice he would give to upcoming Indian Hill High School Braves.

Indian Hill School District (IHSD):
Thank you so much for spending time with us, Eshaan. We understand your research has already been published, that your work on My Chart was recognized by TriHealth, and that you received a grant from Artswave to help you and your brother Neelan establish your newly founded nonprofit organization Music On Court to help kids learn music this summer. This is one amazing resume! Can we begin with a list of the accomplishments that make you feel proud?

Eshaan Gandhi (EG): I will begin with my major research endeavors:

Novel Therapies in the Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. Journal of Research High School Volume 2023(1) 13-20 ISSN 2688-3651 [online]
For this piece, I was motivated to study this condition as my uncle was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He has been a large supporter of mine since childhood, whether it was a baseball game, or a USTA (United States Tennis Association) tennis event. I wanted to get him all the information pertaining to this condition so he can get the best possible treatment, while also wanting to learn more about a topic I was interested in.

The Effect of Musical Stimulation on Cerebral Activity and Anxiety: A Literature Review. International Youth Neuroscience Journal.
I have always been impressed with how music helped me decompress and refocus. I was always able to find solace and comfort in listening to and playing music. I wanted to understand the effect of music on the brain and how it reduced stress and increased concentration.

Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on reported adverse events and prescription fills for antiarrhythmic agents. Accepted for oral presentation at the 9th International Conference of Bioengineering and Biotechnology August 9-11,2023 Brunel University, London, UK
During the peak of the pandemic, my parents, who are physicians, were working from home and were wondering how COVID-19 had an affect on vulnerable parts of the body. I took it upon myself to answer this question with a focus on arrhythmias in the heart. At this time, I was taking a statistics class in school and used my newly learned skills to look at this question with the help of a Harvard professor who specialized in projects like these.

IHSD: How did you create such an outstanding resume so early on in your high school career?

EG: The people I look up to have always encouraged me to think outside the box and pursue my passions. Several programs like Discovery, early in Indian Hill Elementary School and Indian Hill Middle School, as well as other classes have helped prepare me for these journeys. Throughout my journey, I kept my eyes and ears open for opportunities that became readily available and took as many as I could to fulfill my interests. A tremendous amount of support from teachers, counselors, and family has played a big role in helping me build my resume.

IHSD: Who are the educators who you believe have made the biggest impact on your learning and why?

EG:
I am grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way. There are too many names to list here, but it's important to know that each and every one of them has contributed to my academic, extracurricular, and social interests. To put it simply, they have shaped the person I am today.

IHSD: What would be your advice to younger Braves who are interested in pursuing a similar path?

EG:
Make sure to look out for opportunities and to pursue things that you are passionate about. If you're looking to do something outside of the box, don't be afraid to create something of your own and really work towards making it work. If anyone reading this is interested in getting involved in their community, please feel free to contact me.

IHSD: Is there anything else you would like to add?

EG:
I am proud to be a Brave. I'm extremely grateful to go to a school that has a great environment for not only pursuing academic excellence but one that provides opportunities to students to achieve excellence in all possible fields.
