The Indian Hill School District congratulates Indian Hill High School student Lillie Waltz for earning fifth in her division during the JustWrite Ohio State Competition that took place on May 21, 2022, at the University of Findlay. The State tournament featured a total of 200 student writers from 40 high schools in Ohio.
“We are so proud of Lillie and all of our Braves who made it to this elite level of competition,” said Indian Hill High School teacher Tom Millard, who mentors the JustWrite students. “We have had an excellent season, and we look forward to expanding our participation in this unique, creative, and competitive opportunity.”
Indian Hill High School also celebrates student Hannah Kremer who participated, along with students Elsa Zhou and Grace Zhou who both qualified to compete at state, but were unable to attend.
JustWrite tournaments divide writers into groups, Division 1 and Division 2. Division 1 writers are ninth and tenth graders and Division 2 writers are eleventh and twelfth graders. The competition is divided into three 45-minute rounds. In their allotted time, writers are given a universal prompt and genre and they must write their story accordingly. After the conclusion of the three rounds, awards are given to both individuals and teams based on the points they earned. At the state level, in each division, the top three writers win trophies, and writers who place 4th-15th win medallions.
