The Indian Hill School District congratulates Indian Hill Latin students who earned accolades during the University of Cincinnati Certamen Competition on Saturday, September 30. Out of 60 students representing 12 schools, four Braves earned medals during the event, including: Tinsley Haynie and Michael Miller, who each earned gold for the intermediate team; Sophie Tindale, who earned silver for the advanced team; and Christian Wheeler, who earned bronze for the novice team.

“Our students have worked extremely hard to achieve these outstanding results, and we are incredibly proud not only of their success, but also the passion they have displayed in going beyond the classroom to experience Latin,” said Indian Hill Middle School Principal Lauren Gentene. “We look forward to seeing how they continue to grow both in their love of language and within the competition circuit.”

Certamen is a quiz-bowl style game that focuses on the study of the Latin language, Greek and Roman mythology, and classical civilization. Indian Hill students will compete at five additional venues before their annual convention in March 2024.

“Latin at Indian Hill is a unique offering because students learn not only a language, but also an ancient culture that pervades into the tapestry of society today,” said Indian Hill Middle School Latin teacher Sam Frodge. “Here we provide the keys to understanding ourselves in the context of a greater human history. We do all of this while having fun and building a clove community of Latin students.”
