The Indian Hill School District is pleased to announce it will be awarded six grants for a combined $30,000 to expand STEM learning projects through Ohio STEM Learning Network Classroom Grant Program, funded by Battelle. The grants will fund projects at Indian Hill Primary School, Indian Hill Elementary School, and Indian Hill Middle School. The Indian Hill grants are part of 233 issued this fall to create sustainable, STEM learning projects.

“The study of science, technology, engineering, and math is part of our DNA at the Indian Hill School District, evidenced by our Ohio Department of Education and OSLN STEM Designation at both Indian Hill Primary School and Indian Hill Elementary School,” said Indian Hill CEO/Superintendent Kirk Koennecke. “We appreciate Battelle’s investment in this important learning, and we are excited to see the programs our world-class educators create for our students.”

The grant program fosters the growth of the Ohio STEM Learning Network as a public-private partnership between Battelle and the State of Ohio. Ensuring all students develop the skills to be successful in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields is Battelle’s top philanthropic priority.

“Every student should have access to the kind of quality STEM education that drives opportunity for families and leads to new jobs in their local communities” said Kelly Gaier Evans, Director of the Ohio STEM Learning Network. “This program connects champions of STEM in local communities to a broad and deep network of STEM schools, STEM resources, and peer-educators.”

“This is one more example of the way our team continues to look for opportunities to provide our taxpayers savings with attention to conservative fiscal management coupled with the excellence our community both expects and deserves,” said Indian Hill CFO/Treasurer Mick Davis. “This $30,000 in grant money is added revenue to the increased grant funding we saw last school year, which included $300,000 in Ohio K-12 School Safety Grants Awarded for construction; $15,000 in grants for science, technology, engineering, and math through the Ohio STEM Learning Network STEM Classroom Grant program.

“We continue to aggressively apply for additional grant opportunities to offset costs, and we are excited to continue to share this information with our stakeholders. Additionally, we continue to see savings from the implementation of our Energy Savings Program, which guarantees more than $150,000 in savings annually. All of these initiatives add up to cost savings for our valued investors.”

The six grants will fund study of STEM careers and investment in micro-bits at Indian Hill Primary School; aeroponics and aquaponics, eco-system preservation, and broadcasting at Indian Hill Elementary School; and hydroponic grow systems at Indian Hill Middle School.
