Kirk Koennecke

In a unanimous vote of the Indian Hill Board of Education, members approved Kirk Koennecke as the next Superintendent of Schools during the regularly scheduled May 20 meeting. The decision was made following a national search under the guidance of executive search firm McPherson & Jacobson, LLC.

“We are confident Mr. Koennecke is the right educational leader to continue to build the future we expect for our students, our staff, and our community,” said Indian Hill Board of Education President Kim Martin Lewis. “Mr. Koennecke is an enthusiastic leader with an eye toward innovation while respecting the academic traditions that make our District so unique. We welcome him to the Brave family.”

A veteran educational leader with 16 years of experience in administration and 24 years of service to students, Mr. Koennecke comes to the Indian Hill School District after serving as superintendent of the Graham Local School District in Central Ohio, where he led in that capacity since 2016. Prior to that position, Mr. Koennecke worked as a principal at multiple districts including Marion City Schools, Springfield City School, Barberton City Schools, and the Bedford City School District. In addition to his vast experience as a leader in education, Mr. Koennecke has also been a featured presenter nationally, and has published numerous articles within education publications.

“As educators, we are here to help unleash future genius – that is our duty to our students each day,” said Koennecke. “It is student passion paired with purpose and opportunity that creates magic for the students we have the privilege to serve; as the educational leader – my focus is to work with our incredible staff to make this happen. I am thrilled to be a Brave.”

Mr. Koennecke earned his Master of Arts in Education and Superintendent Licensure from Wright State University (2014); his Master of Science in Education from John Carroll University (2005); his Master of Science in Sports Administration from Miami University of Ohio (1995); and his Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University (1994). He is a member of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), the Buckeye Association of School Personnel Administrator (BASA), and is the executive director of the Ohio Small and Rural Collaborative (OSRC).

During the search process, the Board of Education worked with executive search firm McPherson & Jacobson, LLC to collect input from multiple stakeholders, including holding public community meetings, offering an online survey, and meeting directly with students and staff members during March. The search began following the resignation announcement by Indian Hill Superintendent Dr. Mark Miles effective June 30, 2019. Dr. Miles accepted the position of Superintendent of the Rockwood School District in St. Louis, Missouri.

All members of the Indian Hill School District are invited to attend a Community Reception to welcome new Indian Hill Superintendent Kirk Koennecke Tuesday, May 28 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Indian Hill High School Media Center. Refreshments will be served.
