Indian Hill High School Mock Trial goes undefeated in 2023 Buckeye Bash Championship

The Indian Hill School District congratulates the Indian Hill High School (IHHS) Mock Trial team for earning second overall at the 2023 Buckeye Bash Championship. The tournament was hosted by The Ohio State University the weekend of January 14-15 in Columbus.

“Our senior team swept all their ballots and awards, so in the end it came down to a tiebreak based on the strength of opponents,” said Benn VanOudenallen, IHHS teacher and Mock Trial mentor. “Our seniors carried forward the proud Indian Hill Mock Trial tradition while crushing their rounds. We are so lucky to have such skill and generosity in our six veteran competitors. They have passed the legacy on to our underclassmen who also swept the awards from their matches!”

In addition to the senior team going undefeated and earning second in a tiebreak out of 22 teams, IHHS Mock Trial also captured individual awards. IHHS students Rohin Kotian and Sophia Chen each won a best attorney award while Joseph Kayne won best attorney twice. Audrey Phillips, Alex Tasner, Lily Andrews, and Ashwini Krishnan each won best witness.

“I am so impressed with the skill of our seniors and the growth of our underclassmen,” said VanOudenallen. “The students are such quick studies that they improve dramatically from just one tournament to the next. We have 10 hard days in front of us as we refine our arguments and prepare for attacks. However, with their dedication and intelligence I feel great heading into Ohio's toughest district next week.”

The IHHS Mock Trial team travels to downtown Cincinnati’s Hamilton County Courthouse for the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) Mock Trial District Competition on January 27.
