Important Information: Mask optional timeline grades K-12
IH LogoOn Thursday, November 18, during the regular meeting of the Indian Hill Board of Education, members made the decision to update the District’s mask policy. The decision was made to make masks optional for grades 7-12, effective Monday, November 22. Additionally, the mandatory mask requirement for students in grades K-6, and for all staff and visitors, will be lifted at the end of the day on Friday, December 17 at all campus facilities.

Several important developments have factored into this decision:
• Recently, the Ohio Department of Health issued amended contact tracing and quarantine guidelines.
• Vaccines are now widely available for all children ages 5-11.
• The District’s caseload data throughout the first four months of the school year has remained consistently low.
• The District’s quarantine data throughout the first four months of the school year has remained consistently low.

Students, staff, and visitors will be encouraged to wear facial coverings in school facilities after this date and the District will promote a “mask-friendly” environment.

Strategic masking in classrooms/schools will be used if necessary in response to local data and/or to follow guidance from the Ohio Department of Health and Hamilton County Department of Health for “Mask to Stay/Test to Play” procedures.

Transportation
Nothing has changed with the mask mandate as it applies to our school buses; masks remain required on school buses per a federal order.

Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

In service to our children,

Kirk Koennecke
Superintendent
Indian Hill School District
