The Indian Hill School District celebrates the announcement of $15,000 total in grants awarded to Indian Hill Elementary School and Indian Hill Primary School to enhance the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. The 2022-2023 Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) STEM Classroom Grant Program awarded $5,000 to Indian Hill Elementary School to invest in robotics, and $10,000 to Indian Hill Primary School to invest in technology that supports project-based learning and Botley 2.0 robots to assist our youngest learners in developing skill in coding.

“We are excited about what this grant investment will mean for our students,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Principal Whitney Buell. “The funds will be used to purchase VEX GO robotics allowing students to explore the various uses of robots, identify problems they see in their community, and design solutions through the building and programming of robots.

“As a result of this application of learning, students will show growth in problem solving, career exploration, collaboration, identifying coding as another language, digital citizenship, and creativity. The use of robotics in the classroom will also help students prepare for their future, foster curiosity, and turn frustrations into innovation.”

“We are so thankful to be a three-time recipient of the prestigious OSLN grants allowing us to bring the #IHPromise to students in unique and innovative ways,” said Indian Hill Primary School Principal Dr. Erin Owens. “OSLN grants allow us to design lessons that include technology and foster mindsets around communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Our students consistently use the design thinking process to identify problems in their community and design solutions.”

Indian Hill Elementary School and Indian Hill Primary School are two of only 163 public schools selected. The grant program fosters the growth of the Ohio STEM Learning Network as a public-private partnership between Battelle and the State of Ohio. Providing more access for all students to experience quality science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education is Battelle’s top philanthropic priority.

“The Indian Hill School District is committed to STEM for all, and we appreciate this incredible level of partner support,” said Indian Hill CEO/Superintendent Kirk Koennecke. “Congratulations to our outstanding teams at Indian Hill Elementary School and Indian Hill Primary School on this achievement.”
