Building a Brave Community

Superintendent Kirk Koennecke

As we close out the 2021-2022 school year with our new #IHPromise five-year strategic plan in place, I want you to know that the conversation persists about how we can continue to improve our practices. As a learning organization, we are committed to developing Learners as Doers, Learners as Individuals, and Learners as the Whole Child ā€“ that work takes a village.

Our Indian Hill Board of Education set the tone for how the Indian Hill School District would operate as an organization in January 2022, with the announcement that we would establish three separate committees to meet during this school year as a pilot, including: District STEM Advisory Committee; Safety, Health, and Wellness Committee; and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee.

Opening conversation about important issues is how we are building a Brave community both within and outside our classrooms. Iā€™m pleased to report that in the pilot semester, we had 31 stakeholders attend these meetings ā€“ some members are parents within our District, some are community members who live within our District, and some are professional experts in these fields. Each committee met twice this spring. We are planning a more permanent structure for the 2022-2023 school year, extending the invitation to all interested stakeholders to participate, with a future slate of quarterly meetings being designed.

These meetings serve both as an outlet for parent dialogue and education about District programs, activities, and topics of interest. They also serve as a place where I can listen to the concerns that are on the minds of our families. Together, we can cultivate an ongoing conversation where the well-being of our students is our central focus.

I want to thank all committee members who gave the gift of their time to participate in the pilot, and I want to invite all stakeholders who want to engage in these conversations to have a seat at the table. Your voice matters to me and to our Board of Education.

In service to our children,

Kirk Koennecke
