Indian Hill Master Class: Welcome HOME, Ricardo Hill!

Ricardo Hill and Whitney Buell

Welcome to Indian Hill Master Class! This school year, we are using this annual series as a celebration to highlight the exceptional people who curate a feeling of HOME for our students, our families, and each other. This month, Interim Assistant Superintendent Whitney Buell shines the spotlight on Computer Science teacher Ricardo Hill.

Whitney Buell (WB): Most of our Brave Family is familiar with you as "Coach" Ricardo Hill, but you have some serious computer skills you are sharing with students off the court! Tell us a bit about the class you teach and the very real-world skills your students are learning?

Ricardo Hill (RH): We are offering a wide range of classes including Computer Science Discoveries, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, Web Design, and Computer Science Pro.  In the Computer Science Pro course, we are providing students with practical, real-world skills in technology that they can carry directly into the workforce or higher education. Students work through hands-on projects in software development, cybersecurity, web development, data science, and artificial intelligence. Each area allows them to earn Industry Recognized Credentials, which are respected in the tech industry and help set them apart in job or college applications.
Beyond technical skills, we focus on problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration, making sure students are prepared to handle real-life challenges. It's a pleasure to see them grow in confidence and capability, not only as students but as future professionals!

WB: Why do you think these classes are so important?

RH: These classes are incredibly important because they equip students with the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly tech-driven world. The demand for professionals in technology fields like software development, cybersecurity, and data science is growing rapidly, and giving students a head start with real-world skills and industry-recognized credentials opens up a wealth of opportunities.

WB: What do you hope your students take away from the classes?

RH: Beyond just the technical aspects, these classes teach essential skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and resilience. By working on real projects and tackling challenges, students learn to think creatively, work as part of a team, and adapt to new situations—all skills that are valuable no matter what career path they choose.

Ultimately, these classes prepare students not only for the workforce but also to be adaptable, lifelong learners who can thrive in a world where technology is constantly evolving. It's about empowering them with knowledge, confidence, and a pathway to high-demand careers.

WB: Finally - because we simply can't help ourselves - can you tell us how you think the basketball season is looking?

RH: I'm incredibly excited about our season! Even though we have a young team with only one senior, I'm confident our players are ready to bring energy, heart, and determination to the court. We’ve been working hard to build a team that Braves Nation can be proud of, and I know that our fans will see a team that fights for every point and plays with passion. I can't wait to see what this group of student-athletes can accomplish together this year!
