Indian Hill Elementary School dominates Stock Market Game

IHES Stock Market Winners

The Indian Hill School District celebrates Indian Hill Elementary School (IHES) for securing nine of the top 10 elementary teams in the state out of 139 total – including first place – for the Stock Market Game, sponsored by the non-profit Alpaugh Family Economics Center, University of Cincinnati (UC). The winning team included IHES students Joey Hartman, Grayson Kirkwood, and Hadley Stetler, who made $32,000 in 10 weeks. The students will compete at UC on May 1 for the grand prize.

“Through our partnership with Alpaugh Family Economics Center, Indian Hill Elementary School has long fostered financial literacy at an early age, empowering our students to build a solid foundation for future financial success,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Interim Principal Cash Hayden. “We especially want to thank our IH PTO for funding this unique learning opportunity for our entire fifth grade class – this is the fourth year this outstanding partner has supported this inclusive learning, and we are grateful for their continued support.”

The Stock Market Game is a 10-week simulation in which students research and invest in companies of their choice. Their success in the game is directly related to their research and the real-time results of the companies in which they invested. These results reflect the fall Stock Market Game, which took place during September of 2024.

“As a school building, our educators support and celebrate the participation in the Stock Market Game as a way for our students to experience an introduction to elements of financial literacy,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Instructional Coach Betsy Henning. “This has become a generational expectation for our students, who have heard about the experience from older siblings! They simply can’t wait to have their opportunity to learn as they are playing, and since the simulation is in real-time, it adds an extra layer of excitement to the learning. I continue to be proud of the growth students make, and we are all looking forward to the UC competition in May.”
