Braves in service
They are the student-elected leaders of Indian Hill High School (IHHS); this school year, they have modeled servant leadership. Each quarter the IHHS Student Government works on a service project. This school year, students donated 223 pairs of shoes for Soles for Souls; collected more than $500 for Hurricane Dorian victims; and just last week, students collected 1,400 pantry items for NEEDS which operates out of Kenwood Baptist Church.
“Volunteering outside of the Indian Hill School District has provided the opportunity for me and my classmates to learn about and help other communities,” said IHHS senior David Slattery, who serves as the IHHS Student Government Treasurer.
“Learning to serve is part of what it means to be an Indian Hill High School Brave, and we are very proud of the efforts by our student leaders,” said Indian Hill High School Principal Jeff Damadeo.
During the 2018-2019 school year, IHHS Braves and Indian Hill Middle School Braves volunteered a total of 20,000 hours. Leading the IHHS Student Government efforts is Teacher Anne Kuhn, who has served as a mentor to students the past three years.
“Our student-leaders’ dedication to service includes not only the service itself but also the leadership by example,” said Kuhn. “The hope is that all students view the work as meaningful and rewarding and continue to serve well into their adult life.”
The IHHS Student Government includes 33 members.
