THE SENIOR EXPERIENCE: Winter Break

Tara Keenan on Winter Break

Like many others, my winter break consisted of visiting family. Although it’s sometimes hard not to have my family close, it means every break I get to go visit them. Three flights and a whole day of travelling is always worth it, knowing that next year I won’t be able to see them often. Not having seen them for months, naturally I was bombarded with questions the moment I walked through the door. “Where are you going to college?” “What are you majoring in?” “When do you hear back?” Being the oldest cousin, my family takes enjoyment in hounding me with questions, asking me everything they would ever need to know in the span of 10 minutes. Reluctantly, I answer every detailed question they have, and then again when my next relative asks me the same thing. Even so, it’s nice to have time off, to get to spend time with family you haven’t seen in months.

After a long semester of working hard, applying to colleges, and studying for exams, it’s important to take these two weeks to unwind and take a break from the stress of school and college decisions. For many, decisions have already started rolling in, and these next few months will start to become the most hectic of our high school careers. Soon these breaks will be our only time to see our best friends that we haven’t seen in months; we’ll be coming back to see our family after being away for what feels like forever. It’s important to make the most out of every moment now, before we know it we’ll be graduating and heading off to college. Our entire lives have led up to this moment, and it’s all happening so fast.
