This summer, seven Indian Hill High School (IHHS) students plan to travel with the intent to serve. The IHHS student-led service trip to rural China is being orchestrated by the student-developed nonprofit organization BEST (Better Education for Stronger Teeth). Juniors Diana Yue, Marc-Aurele Lallement, Pietro Lavezzo, Liz Radway, sophomore Sten Lu, and freshmen Anna Keefer and Ryan Rammacher will travel to China June 9 – June 21 with the goal to spread awareness of proper oral health practices to children in underprivileged areas. By collaborating with the Chinese Oral Health Foundation and P&G, BEST members will be attending an international oral health convention, conducting oral health workshops, and organizing lessons with children living in rural China.

“We hope to impact and improve the lives of children living in rural China by teaching them proper oral health education and practices,” explained BEST founder Diana Yue. “However, I believe by experiencing the life of someone so drastically different from ours, we will learn just as much, and possibly more, than the children we teach. Ultimately, by communicating and eventually living the life of those who live on less than $2 a day, this will be a chance for us to expand our horizons; witness the lives of those who live outside our borders; and truly become global citizens who will leave their mark in this world.”

Support the cause! Students Marc-Aurele Lallement and Diana Yue have organized a fundraiser for the service learning trip on Friday, May 17, at 3:00 p.m. in the field next to the Indian Hill High School parking lot. In collaboration with the Global Culture group, you can purchase food from around the world, and enjoy a free Frisbee competition.
