IHMS Day of Service

Throughout Indian Hill and the Cincinnati area Indian Hill Middle School (IHMS) students showed up, ready to serve. One hundred and forty-five students – the entire eighth grade class – spent Friday, May 10 learning outside the classroom at eight nonprofit organizations student leaders had researched and peers had selected for an inaugural day of service.

“What an exciting opportunity to spend a day of service and relationship building with our eighth graders as a culminating experience to their middle school years,” said Indian Hill Middle School Principal Jennifer Ulland. “Cultivating a culture of service is part of what it means to be a Brave; this was a perfect way to prepare our graduating Middle School students for service learning at Indian Hill High School.”

“The whole experience benefitted our students,” said IHMS eighth-grade student Katie Yanes Diehl, who participated in the event at Stepping Stones. “We raked leaves, cleaned the trails, cleaned the pool, and made it a better environment for the campers who will be there in June. The camp is a great place for students with disabilities to enjoy being outside and being themselves. My classmates and I got a chance to make this a special place for the Stepping Stones campers.”

“We are extremely proud of our Braves,” said Ulland. “We look forward to building on this debut program year after year.”

The nonprofit organizations IHMS students served included: Stepping Stones, Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank, Sheakley Boys and Girls Club, Our Daily Bread, Ronald McDonald House, Operation Give Back, Brookdale Retirement Community, and Gorman Heritage Farm.
