Indian Hill moves forward with assessment of facilities and operational needs

Steering Committee during April 2019

Work and planning to fully assess the school facilities within the Indian Hill School District continue and remain on schedule. As a next step, the District’s Steering Committee, a subcommittee of the overarching Facilities Assessment Task Force, launched the next phase of the work which includes an analysis of capital needs at all District school buildings and facilities. Recently, the committee initiated and assessed Indian Hill Primary School, Indian Hill Elementary School, and the District’s transportation facility.

“There is excitement within our Steering Committee meetings about the opportunity we have as a community to build the future of our District,” said Indian Hill Superintendent Dr. Mark Miles. “I want to thank each parent and community member who agreed to volunteer their time to continue this important work.”

Additionally, Treasurer Mick Davis is also convening a Finance Committee to review school funding processes and capital/operating funding options. In June/August, the Steering and Finance Committees will join forces to draft potential scenarios for the Board of Education to consider.

Following is an outline of the District’s Steering Committee vision, mission, and considerations:

Mission
By October 2019, create and present two to four District capital improvement scenarios for the consideration of the Board of Education that provide learning excellence for students and staff.

Vision
We envision learning environments to enhance opportunities for each student to achieve his/her potential in academics, arts, and athletics. Proposed District capital improvement scenarios will:

1. allow students and staff to thrive in safe, supportive, and collaborative learning environments;
2. incorporate best practices in K-12 learning environments while providing flexibility to adapt to future needs; and
3. optimize financial resources provided by our taxpayers to benefit students, staff, and community members.

Considerations

• Safety & Security
• Learning Environments (current & future)
• Accessibility
• Infrastructure & Energy

The team has plans to present capital improvement scenarios to the Board of Education in the September/October 2019 timeframe. To continue to follow the latest news on the process, visit the “Facilities Assessment” page of the District website within the “About” section.
